Reiki is a complementary therapy relating to energy healing. It works through the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to the client. Reiki provides relief, relaxation, and healing to millions.

Before, during and after treatment

The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy.

Reiki is a type of energy healing. According to practitioners, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness.

WHAT's Involved?

At Charlton House, we will give Reiki treatment in a peaceful, private setting. During a session, you will sit in a comfortable chair or lie on a table, fully clothed.

The practitioner will then place their hands lightly on or over specific areas of your head, limbs, and torso. They will typically keep their hands in these positions for 3–10 minutes.

The practitioner holds their hands lightly on or over the body, an energy transfer takes place.

During this time, the practitioner and the client may report that areas of their body or hands feel warm or are tingling. They will hold each hand position until they sense that the energy has stopped flowing.

Some Reiki practitioners will use crystals and chakra healing wands to enable healing or protect a home from negative energy.

Other methods or “instruments” used may be Sage. “Smudging” is often performed before a healing to ward off any negative energy. Smudging involves burning sage which acts like a joss stick leaving a pleasant aroma.

Healing process

This energy permeates the body. Reiki experts point out that although this energy is not measurable with modern scientific techniques, many who tune into it can feel it.

Reiki aids relaxation, assists in the body’s natural healing processes, and develops emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Side Effects

Reiki is safe. However, some will experience sensations such as tingling, warmth, and cold, or may experience their symptoms worsening for a short time after. These are all common and often refer to your body expelling the negative energy.

Some may experience headaches or cold-like symptoms but they are often short and present little inconvenience.
